HIGHLANDS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE TO SIGN LETTER OF INTENT

What:

Highlands High School senior track and field athlete Mary Claire Redden will sign a letter of intent to compete at Western Kentucky University. The signing will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, in the media center at Highlands High School.

Mary Claire started throwing shot put and discus for Highlands while in middle school and has been one of the top throwers in Northern Kentucky and the state for several years. Mary Claire helped lead the track team to numerous invitational wins and a 2nd place finish at the 2016 KHSAA State Championship.  Last spring, she finished 3rd for discus with a toss of 109’ 5”, which is her personal best. Her best shot put throw is 35’ 6”.

“Mary Claire is the true definition of what it means to be a student athlete,” said Brian Alessandro, Highlands High School head cross-country and girls track and field coach. “Mary Claire is always willing to work hard, and as a former NCAA Division III coach, I know she will contribute well to Western’s track program.”

While attending Western Kentucky University, Mary Claire intends to pursue a degree in chemistry.
