Highlands High School junior Christian A. and sophomore Anna F. have been accepted into the 2012 Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) program for architecture and instrumental music, respectively.
GSA students participate in a three-week program located at Transylvania University in Lexington during which the rising juniors and seniors are offered in-depth instruction in one of nine areas: architecture, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art or vocal music. The student artists are immersed in a rigorous schedule of daily seminars, master-classes, lectures, hands-on workshops and field trips.
Each year only 225 students are selected from more than 1,600 students who audition. This honor includes: full tuition, room and board to attend the school; the opportunity to learn in a supportive community of distinguished master-teachers; the chance to audition for scholarships before the nation’s top colleges and universities; and the excitement of performing at the Student Performance Festival at the conclusion of the program.
