HIGHLANDS NAMED ONE OF AMERICA’S BEST HIGH SCHOOLS BY NEWSWEEK AND THE WASHINGTON POST
(May 24, 2012) Highlands High School was named one of Newsweek’s “Best High Schools” by the recent Newsweek Magazine’s “2012 Best High Schools” report. Highlands High School ranked 235 out of the top 1,000 schools in the United States, notably moving up from their rank of 367 in 2010. Highlands is one of only two Northern Kentucky high schools to make this impressive ranking. Overall, only 7 Kentucky high schools were listed.
Additionally, Highlands High School is nationally ranked at 122 by The Washington Post’s “2012 High School Challenge,” making a major advancement from last year’s ranking at 291. Highlands took the #1 spot in Kentucky from which only 11 schools made the list.
Gene Kirchner, superintendent, stated, “Seeing Highlands High School significantly move up each year in these national rankings is a testament to the dedication and commitment to educational excellence that exists in Fort Thomas. We are very excited about the direction of our instructional program.”
These rankings are, in part, based on how hard school staffs work to challenge
students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests.
