    • Finalized Narrative and Expository pieces will be due at the end of class on Monday, March 23rd.
    • Finalized Persuasive and Choice pieces will be due at the end of class on Tuesday, March 24th.

  • My 40-day maternity leave begins tomorrow. You will have 2 fantastic substitute teachers in my absence.   • Early Bird: We didn't have class today because of our scheduled Late Arrival. Remember that you need to read/annotate/score our class essays by Friday, March 20th, 2015.

Open Question Group Essay

Class Activities

  • Students wrote Open Essay Group Essays today. Students continued working in groups, and one essay per group will be due at the end of class on Monday. I booked the Mobile Mac Lab for all classes on Monday, so students who have laptops may want to bring their own. All groups must use Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights in order to answer their assigned open question.

Open Question Presentation Introduction

  • Students were assigned groups and questions for open question presentations. Then, students went to the lab in order to begin planning open question presentations. 
    • Requirements
      • Present an outline of how you would answer one question with two different texts. One of your texts must be Wuthering Heights
      • In the PowerPoint, include the following . . .

Open Question Introduction

  • I handed out information about Prom to Dawn.
  • I passed back Wuthering Heights 2 Reading Check, Wuthering Heights 3 Reading Check, and Wuthering Heights 4 Reading Check. 
  • I explained exam exemptions to students and how, this semester, exam exemptions are related directly to your Writing Portfolio.
  • Students discussed past AP English Literature and Composition Open Question Prompts beginning on page 9 of the AP English Literature and Composition Binder. We talked about the importance of SPECIFICITY.

  • If you missed class today, you need to print a copy of the Portfolio Reflection Questions. Choose 10 to answer based on your Paired Poem Essay. Attach them to your Paired Poem Essay before you file the graded essay in your portfolio folder.
  • Students used the AP Prompt on page 478 to review satire.

Restoration SPLICE Chart

Class Activities

  • Students got back some exit slips from this week that show that we are all tracking pretty well with satire. This weekend's assignment will challenge those developing analysis skills! 
  • Students completed a SPLICE Chart based on the non-fiction background from pages 313-333 of the AP English Literature and Composition Binder. I gave out extra SPLICE pages, so if you were not here, you can make your own if you like. I'll also give you a blank one when you come back to class. I'll check SPLICE charts on Monday.

Quarter 2 Multiple Choice Test Review

Class Activities

  • Students reviewed Oscar Wilde and how he represents the Victorian era by reviewing The Picture of Dorian Gray Reading Checks 1-4 and Major Works Data Sheet (found in the very back of the AP English Literature and Composition Binder). 
  • Students got an important packet of AP Test information to review. 
  • Students who took the final exam received their graded exam back.
  • Students filed portfolio pieces from other classes. We will revisit these this spring. 
  • Students received/reviewed the Quarter 2 Multiple Choice Test.

  • None! Just be ready to receive/review your Quarter 2 Essay Test in class tomorrow!

The Picture of Dorian Gray Reading Check 4

  • Students got back and discussed The Merchant of Venice Writing Prompt. The writing assignment is in Infinite Campus out of 20 points. Students will notice that there is a math error on the rubric that could really only turn out in your favor.
  • Students discussed protocol for exams. I posted the exam schedule by my door, and we talked about how important it is to be present, in class, and on time, during exams.

"In Praise of the Humble Comma" by Pico Iyer
