Your child has been given a pretest on the first ten words on the list of 20 words shown in the homework packet. After the pretest is given, your child will circle ten words that they will have on their Friday spelling test. Depending on how many words they missed in the first ten determines how many words they will pick out of the remaining ten words. Their total words will always be ten. I will place a check mark on the spelling list in the homework packet so that you know the list has been checked and does include ten words for the Friday's Spelling Test. The spelling test is multileveled using one list of words so that on Friday your child will spell words that pertains to their level of spelling.
The first ten words on the list are high frequency words. The last ten words are patterned words such as long a words etc. Words from the previous weeks may be repeated in order to make sure they really know how to spell them. Examples are given below.
SAMPLE PRE-TEST (On Monday, the student is given the first ten words from the list of 20 words you see in the homework packet.)
2. dogg (X)
5. kat (X)
7. jrive (X)
10. rite (X)
* This student missed four on the pre-test given on Monday. In the homework packet, the spelling list will show these four words circled. In addition, the student will then pick six words from the remaining ten to have a total of ten words on Friday's Spelling Test.
SAMPLE HOMEWORK SPELLING LIST (The red words in the list below would be the students words for the week to study. There are ten words total for their core test. They can study all words for the Friday test. The other words are bonus worth 1 point.
