The following are times available to get extra help on concepts you are struggling with. A huge indication of success is mastering the concepts as we go and not getting behind. Please come see either one of us for help!

Course Philosophy: Students will be challenged, learn many new concepts, and be successful.
Introduction to Physics provides topics from basic physics and Earth and space sciences emphasizing how the selected topics in each discipline reflect aspects of broad scientific themes. Attention is given to current issues and applications of science and technology in today’s world. The approach of the course is inquiry based, enabling students to develop skills and capture concepts through lab exercises and activities. Math skills will be frequently used to generate data for analysis and interpretation.
- Demonstrate Newton’s Laws of Motion Predict motion, speed, acceleration, distance, force, etc.
- Predict gravitational effects between two bodies
- Be able to successfully make a variety of measurements such as mass, volume, area, temperature, acceleration etc. using appropriate technologies
- Discuss relationships between magnetism and electricity; work problems
- Discuss conservation of energy and various forms of energy and energy transformations
- Discuss concepts of temperature and heat, and the relationships between them
- Discuss sound and be able to characterize its properties and work problems with it
- Discuss light and be able to characterize its properties and work problems with it
- Discuss other forms of radiation, in addition to visible light, and be able to characterize its properties and work problems with it
- Discuss plate tectonics and how earthquakes form and relate to waves, and seismic activity.

Materials: Charged MacBook, 1” 3- ring binder with dividers, ruler with cm, protractor, scientific calculator, highlighters, graph paper, notebook, tissues
1. Students enter room quietly, cell phones are put away, read agenda on board and get out materials.
2. Answer Entrance Slip questions.
3. During Teacher Directed Instruction, students make notes, listen, participate and ask questions.
4. During Student Group Work, students work in partners/teams to accomplish the task.
5. Students work until the bell rings. Never line-up at the door waiting for the bell to ring.
Your grades are a reflection of your learning. Grades are as they appear in Schoology, and it is your responsibility to check your scores weekly. Grades are a total of points for the quarter. Typical point values for assignments are below:
Tests 100 pts
Quizzes and Labs 20-30 pts
Classwork and Homework 5-20 pts
Mastery: It is my goal that all students succeed in class. If you want to improve understanding on an already completed assignment, students may come in during focus time and office hours to complete these tasks and improve scores. This must be completed prior to the Unit Test.
Late: Assignments may be turned in late and earn up to 75% credit.
Tests: Tests grades are final. Each test may be curved up to 10 points. Test corrections may be required as a separate assignment.
Students will be notified weekly as to whether or not they will have a choice of what to work on during focus period. Those who have missing assignments or who have not mastered recent concepts should expect to spend this time on physics.
- Check Schoology to find out what you missed.
- Absent work should be submitted to Schoology and send a Schoology message to your teacher that an assignment was submitted from an absence.
- You must make arrangements to complete lab experiments on your own time within one week.
- Quizzes and tests must be made up on the day student returns to school (quizzes and tests will always be announced several days ahead of time).
- Be Respectful...Be Accountable...Be Aware...Be Responsible...Be Cooperative
- Be productive during class, don’t cause distractions, and don’t be a cheater!
- Small snacks and sealed water are OK during class on non-lab days. Please do not bring food prone to crumbs (chips, crackers, etc) and keep these items away from the MacBooks.
- Students will be removed from the class immediately when they create a disturbance that interrupts the learning environment or presents a danger to themselves or others.
- MacBooks - Students should bring their district MacBooks to class everyday, charged, and ready to use. It is an amazing privilege to have a MacBook - do not lose it. Use it for physics work in my classroom. Do not use it for games, shopping, other work, chatting, etc. If I see you using your MacBook in that manner, you will lose the opportunity to use it in my class.
- iPads/Cell Phones - It is mandatory that students silence and place cell phones in the center of their table during class time. There will be times when phones are needed to submit assignments through Schoology or to use as a timing device. You will be informed if it is appropriate to use your phone in this manner. Other uses of phones are not permitted, and having it in your hand during an assessment will be considered academic dishonesty. Repeat offenders will have their phone confiscated and a parent will need to retrieve it from the principal’s office.
- Do you own work on homework, tests, quizzes, and projects. Discussing a test or quiz to another student who hasn’t taken it yet is cheating. If someone asks you for your work, JUST SAY NO.
- Plagiarizing from the Internet is cheating.
- Incidents of cheating will be handled on an individual basis. Mr. Schneider will be notified of any instance of cheating in this class.
All students are expected to observe and be aware of the rules and expectations in the Student Handbook, as well as those of the classroom.
First offense: Quiet verbal warning and the event will be documented
Second offense: The event will be documented and a detention will be assigned.
Third offense: Parents will be contacted and a detention will be assigned
Fourth offense: Parents will be contacted and an office referral will be submitted.
Breaking a school rule may warrant more severe action and verbal warnings may be bypassed due to the severity of the offense.
