Welcome to the Fort Thomas World Language Elementary program. My name is Silvia McClamrock and I have the privilege of being your child’s Intermediate Spanish teacher. I am very excited to continue (or begin!) our journey into the world of language learning. Your child will have Spanish once a week for 45 minutes.
Research shows students learn best when language teachers use as little English as possible; therefore, I speak in Spanish for the entire class period. At an early age, children have a unique opportunity to soak up another language and thrive in an immersion setting. According to a successful world language educational model used in Fairfax County, Virginia that I follow, “this means that there is a greater focus on meaningful and purposeful communication than on grammatical mastery. Students are encouraged first to understand and then to produce in the language. The target language is used by both teachers and students.” Using culture as a context for language learning, I will focus on creating real life applications of Spanish.
I am excited to share the language learning experience with your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. My Fort Thomas teacher website contains information, links, and games geared toward a student audience.
