NTI has ended as of December 18, 2020.
Teachers and administrators within the Fort Thomas Independent Schools have thoughtfully collaborated to develop a high quality and comprehensive model of Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) when schools are closed to in-person classes. Based upon a careful analysis of feedback from student, parent, and teacher stakeholder groups in Spring 2020, our district has expanded upon our instructional methodology to encourage creative planning in the delivery of premium instruction to every student and to provide for student and teacher interaction on NTI days during the 2020-2021 school year. Our ultimate goal is to continuously facilitate instruction. The district has collectively developed a guidance document for schools to address priority considerations for NTI programming. Direct instruction is provided through live videoconferencing tools, such as Microsoft Teams, and/or pre-recorded videos. There are minimum weekly expectations for teacher-student interactions and each school has intently crafted daily schedules for teachers and students to follow in order to establish a structure and routine. Student workload assignments have been conscientiously prepared, plans to address students' social emotional and psychoeducational needs have been advanced, and teams of teachers and staff are meticulously working to support our exceptional learners including, but not limited to, those students identified as EL or Gifted and Talented, as well as those with 504 Plans or Individual Education Plans. School-based teams are implementing processes to provide support for struggling students and the district has committed to surveying teachers and staff to collect ongoing data for program improvement. The Fort Thomas Independent Schools remains vigilant in preparing for sudden intermittent closures or rapid transitions to extended periods of NTI, if necessary.
