The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) supports family engagement all year long. During summer break, children may lose up to three months of literacy and numeracy skills when they aren't practicing what they have learned over the past school year, but learning can continue when school is not in session. The summer months are an opportunity to further encourage families to enjoy literacy and numeracy experiences together in their own homes. To support parents, families and caregivers in encouraging summer learning right in their own homes, the KDE is providing resources to help children's minds during the summer months.
